Over the past few weeks, one of the biggest sports stories in the professional sports world has been in regards to the Philadelphia 76ers. After having a very successful regular season and winning their first playoff series in years, the 76ers looked as if they were going to have a very active offseason and try to recruit a lot of key free agents. However, the off-season for them quickly got off to a bad start due to a scandal involving social media and Bryan Colangelo, the team’s general manager.

According to yes, several fake Twitter accounts were established by either Bryan Colangelo or his spouse (). These Twitter accounts then were used to do a variety of things including defend Colangelo and also make critical remarks about players on the 76ers. After this was uncovered, the general manager and his wife announced that the general manager had nothing to do with the fake accounts and that she was only making post to defend her husband. However, the scandal has forced Colangelo to resign and 76ers are now trying to move forward.

Now that Colangelo has resigned from his position as general manager, the 76ers have to find a way to move forward quickly. At this point, it is not yet clear who will be the ongoing general manager for the team. However, this is a very crucial time for the franchise as they appear to be on the cusp of greatness. During the prior regular season, the long-term growth plan finally seem to come together at some of the young players on the team did very well and even look dominant at times. The 76ers end of the regular season by winning 16 games and then winning the first round of their playoffs.

While they ultimately lost to the Boston Celtics in the second round, the 76ers looks as if they would be a key participant in free agency this offseason. This is a very important offseason for the 76ers as they currently have a very talented young core but appear to be a star player or two away from really competing for the NBA title. This also comes at a time when there are many free agents that could be changing teams. However, for the 76ers to attract some of these top players they will need to be able to rebuild some of the trust that they recently lost.
