On Tuesday, the president of a fraternity at Temple University found himself suspended from school. The fraternity of the university is the Alpha Epsilon Pi. The president of the fraternity is Ari Goldstein. He is 21 years old and from Wrightstown in Pennsylvania. The charges he is being accused of include intimidation, indecent assault, false imprisonment, unlawful restraint, attempted sexual assault and attempted rape. He is currently being held at the jail on a $2 million bond and was arraigned for the case on Wednesday.
This arrest was done just a month after the local police in Temple had issued bulletins saying they are responding to many different credible reports they had received for various crimes carried out at the events held by the same fraternity. Some of the alleged acts listed on the bulletin have included drug use, sexual assault, sexual misconduct and underage drinking.
The head of the police department’s special victim unit has verified that at least three victims had come to the department in order to put in a report that they were assaulted sexually. Two of the victims that came forward are only 19 years old and attend the university. The first reported incident involved around the president of the fraternity happened back in February. The police chief said that the case was referred to the district attorney’s office last Friday.
The second reported incident happened in March at the fraternity house. The report indicated that a female student says she was attending a party held at the fraternity’s house and had been given several alcoholic drinks. She then stated in the report that the drinks caused her to black out and when she came to, she found herself in a bed with a member of the fraternity.
The third female victim came forward with details from an incident that happened in April at the fraternity house. There are no details released about that incident at this time. The investigators for the whole case have not stated yet if Goldstein was involved in each of these three separate reports. A statement from the fraternity chapter’s Instagram page in April says they are appalled by the alleged actions of that particular fraternity’s chapter. They have suspended all events at that fraternity until the investigation has been completed. They have been working with the Temple police in the investigation and other local authorities when needed. The university has asked the chapter to withhold from conducting their own investigation.
