The 2017-18 NBA season was one of the most exciting seasons in recent memory. One of the main reasons why the season was so exciting is that there was a good combination of traditional and recent powers, such as the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as new up and coming teams making runs in the playoffs. One team that has been very fun to follow this year has been the Philadelphia 76ers.
For the past five years, the growth and development of the Philadelphia 76ers has been fun for a lot of people to watch. While the team has had a lot of struggles with poor draft selections and injuries, they finally seem to have been able to put a good team on the floor. During the 2018 season, the were able to win 16 straight games and end up securing the third ranked spot in the Eastern Conference.
During the first round of the playoffs, the 76ers did extremely well. During this series, they were very dominant and won four out of five games against the Miami Heat. After this series, many people expected that the 76ers would be able to dominate the Boston Celtics in the second round of the series. Part of this was due to the momentum that the 76ers had going while others were concerned about injuries that the Celtics had incurred in recent weeks.
While the 76ers looked like they should run through the Celtics in the second round, the team has not done as well as many would have thought. During the first three games, the 76ers looked outmatched when it came to depth and the 76ers had a hard time getting their offense started. However, the team ended up changing their game plan in Game 4 and were able to get back into the series by winning the game. Now, the team looks as if they are going to continue to rely on their young stars to continue to compete (http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23441223/zach-lowe-philadelphia-76ers-lineups-joel-embiid-ben-simmons-nba-playoffs).
During Game 5, the 76ers will focus heavily on getting the ball to Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid. While the Celtics have more depth than the 76ers, Simmons and Embiid will always be the best two players on the court during this series. The team should be able to continue to run the ball and score as long as they are able to stay healthy over the next few games.
