Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia recently hosted its first Cardiac Family Fun day. Over 800 people from around the country attended this event. There was a carnival with a face painting, moon bounce and rides. The purpose of this event was to help people connect with the medical teams who treat patients with heart problems. People were also able to share their experiences at the hospitals with other families. The event was for both current and former patients of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, family members and friends of the patients were able to attend the event.
The cardiac center at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia cares for babies, children, teens and young people who have heart problems. There are 125 people who work in the cardiac department. This team includes cardiologists, surgeons, anesthesiologists, physician assistants and advanced practice nurses.
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is known for having one of the best cardiac centers in the country. The team performs over 1,000 cardiac surgeries per year. This includes 600 open heart surgeries. There are also 1,400 cardiac catherizations performed each year as well as 32,000 other outpatient procedures.
The hospital also has one of the best outcomes in the world for cardiac patients. It is consistently ranked number one in the country for cardiology by the United States News and Report. Additionally, the hospital has been awarded Magnet status by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Only 6 percent of hospitals in this country has achieved this status.
If a hospital has Magnet status then, that they have lower mortality rates and better outcomes than most hospitals. It also means that patients stay in the hospital for a shorter amount of time. Additionally, Magnet-status hospitals attract professionals who are more qualified. Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has some of the best nurses, doctors, surgeons and advanced practitioners.
